Meet Jim, our fun-loving charismatic SecOps Manager

@HUBnews

Jim has been around HUB24 for the past three years and has watched our story grow from strength to strength. He describes us as having “a growth culture with a sense of fun” and an underlying vibe of confidence and encouragement.

Tell me about your role at HUB24? What do you do?

I am the manager of the Security Operations (SecOps) team which is part of Cyber Security and Governance. We implement and manage cyber security initiatives and tools to help reduce the risk of data loss or business interruptions to the HUB24 business from cyber-attacks. With the HUB24 Group constantly growing and launching new products, it’s a busy team.

What has surprised you the most about the working culture at HUB?

The growth culture mixed with a sense of fun. There is definitely an underlying vibe of confidence and encouragement. As an example, I was promoted internally to my current role (SecOps Manager) after being initially hired as the Technical Operations Manager. This is reflective of the culture within HUB24 which encourages growth and provides opportunities to develop into new roles. There are many other stories of internal promotions and opportunities here, so I am excited to be part of this journey.

What is your ‘superpower’ and how do you use this in everyday life?

I’m not sure it’s a superpower however I do like to speak my mind and ask questions. This hasn’t always worked in my favour however HUB24 encourages participation with the feeling of psychological safety.

How do you differentiate yourself as a leader?

I can’t confirm that this makes me different, however, I believe in looking after each member of my team, looking for ways to improve our ways of working. I aim to maintain my curiosity on how to be a leader so that I can learn how to be better at it.

How do you empower your team to be the best they can be?

I look and ask for ways to reduce ‘busy work’ that is repetitive and mundane. I have smart people working for me, so I want them to have time to think and create smart solutions.

If there was one piece of career advice you could give someone, what would that be?

Don’t let what you’ve done dictate what you’re going to do. Always have a growth mindset – you never know what’s around the corner – and stay curious.
